Support to CITES

UNEP-WCMC provides a range of information management services to support the effective implementation of CITES.
These include management of the CITES trade database and CITES species database.

CITES trade database

UNEP-WCMC manages the CITES trade database on behalf of the CITES Secretariat. Contracting Parties provide annual reports to the CITES Secretariat including full details of all export and import permits and certificates issued during the previous year. These data are entered into the central CITES trade database which is searchable on-line. Analyses are produced at the request of the Secretariat and others.

UNEP-WCMC also produces regular outputs of net trade in wild-collected fauna and flora listed on CITES Appendix II as part of the Review of Significant Trade. More...

CITES trade data dashboards

The CITES Trade Data Dashboards provides an interactive and dynamic way of viewing the trade data submitted by CITES Parties. The Global dashboard displays global trade trends, whereas the National dashboard shows information by country. The dashboards have been developed by UNEP-WCMC on behalf of the CITES Secretariat.

CITES species database

UNEP-WCMC manages the database of CITES-listed species.

A list of CITES listed trees is provided here.

The Centre produces a new edition of the Checklist of CITES species from the CITES species database, following each meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CITES. This publication also contains the Annotated CITES Appendices and reservations.

The 2008 Checklist of CITES species and 2008 Annotated appendices and reservations contain updates from the 14th meeting of the Conference of the Parties, held in the Hague, the Netherlands in 2007. They are available in PDF format here or on a CD-ROM, available from the CITES Secretariat.
