Note: This database only includes species controlled under Commission Regulation (EC) No. 709/2010, of 22/07/2010. Species listed in CITES Appendix III since that date are excluded. A full list of all species listed in the CITES Appendices is available here
About the EU Wildlife Trade Regulation database

The EU Wildlife Trade Regulation database includes more than 33,000 accepted plant and animal species that are listed in the CITES Appendices and the EU Wildlife Trade Regulations and many of their synonyms. It was created and is maintained by UNEP-WCMC with financial support from the European Commission.

Tools are available to:

  • search for species-based information (e.g. taxonomy, distribution, legislation, status, etc.)
  • search for country-based information, such as species occurrence, CITES export quotas, EU import restrictions /SRG opinions and CITES Notifications relating to trade bans and suspensions.
  • download list of species included in the EU Wildlife Trade Regulations by Annex or taxonomic level (e.g. all mammals) by selecting the Search by Annex tool.
  • check whether import restrictions apply to species using the Search by Trade Restrictions tool .

E-library

Access to an electronic library of documents is also provided, which includes:

  • CITES CoP proposal documents
  • CITES significant trade reviews
  • Case studies presented at the CITES non-detriment finding meeting
  • other EU documents.

All are indexed by species, country or meeting. Further information on the library can be found here.

Reports

UNEP-WCMC also provides reports on:

  • species listed in the Regulations to each meeting of the EC Scientific Review Group (SRG).A selection of reports prepared by UNEP-WCMC can be accessed from the Publications page.
  • the European Community’s annual reports to CITES (compiled from the annual reports submitted by the EU Member States). Trade data compiled from CITES Parties annual reports can be accessed via the CITES Trade Database.

EPIX

UNEP-WCMC is developing mechanisms to facilitate the expedite, electronic exchange and verification of CITES-Permit data among CITES Management Authorities so that data can be queried and retrieved though a webservice.
